Bergen - a city of wooden houses

Bergen has the largest collection of wooden houses in Norway. This has of course lead to many fires. Some of the houses were rebuilt in stone and concrete, but wooden houses came back in many places. For a period people left the central area for the suburbs, but during the last decade or two younger people have moved back and restored many of these houses. The first picture was taken from the rather steep and narrow street called "Sydneskleiven" looking to the north towards an old fortress called "Fredriksberg". The other is taken just 90 degrees to the right of the first one.
