The Magic of 2011

What is this, has something disturbed our sun in the new year? Has some ring of power given us a sign that all is not well with our old friend in the sky? Or is it my mediocre photography that has offended some of the powers that be? And at one of my favourite photo haunts too.

No, don't be afraid. The New Year has not turned my head completely. It is just the effect of a circular polarizing filter pointed straight at the sun - for fun.

WOW! First, I am taken in with your snowy header and then what a treat to see a beautiful rainbow. . . then I scroll down the page and get that fantastic circle of the rainbow and wonder how you did it. Good thing you explained. . . I would be wondering still. Beautiful effect! Keep experimenting! I love it. Happy New Year again!

A wonderful shot, RuneE. Please join in with the new age from the powers that be. I wonder if you've noticed a different time or location for the sun to rise and set in Norway than is normal. It does here. Very peculiar.

Pointing at the sun for fun sounds like the title of a cheerful book or song.

May you have a brilliant 2011 filled . . . er . . . with circular rainbows!

That looks very atmospheric! Could be a sign of visitation from intergalactic beings!

This special sun seems to be sending heat and light, as well as a message of hope!
What are those strange round silhouettes in your new banner?..modern art or alien visitors?..:)

Hello Rune.

I enjoyed your comment. At least this mini Burnham Wood didn't attack us while we drank our coffee!

Did you read the rest of the article? This was just the beginning. The whole thing is at

P.S. It would be interesting to know if you have any parallel traditions in Norway.

That is so cool! It reminds me that I have a polarizing filter that I should dust off and start using. :)

Wow! What a spectacular effect on this photo, caused by the circle! You really have an eye( hopefully two) for it.I wish you all the best in 2011.
I had a busy week with the four Polish guests from Taizé and
yesterday Marina and Antigoni came to visit me with their families. They are the Greek blogging sisters. Marina has lived now in Brussels for a short time and her sister visited her for the Christmas holidays. All those guests were wonderful to meet.
