O is for October in Norway

O is an easy one - October. We all know that it is the tenth month of the year, and if you need any more background, you can read about it in Wikipedia. In Norway one can look upon October as a kind of inverse April - anything can happen. And it does.

One can have summer-like evenings where only the changing colours of the foliage tells one that it is autumn.

If you have access to a still lake or fjord you can see a tremendous expression of colour - twice.

But of course, it gets colder. The cars get dew on the windows.

You may drive into large banks of mist.

You may even experience full winter.

One poor leaf got caught by the snow with a little bit of green left.

And of course there is rain. But a rose is still a rose even when it rains.

Into the Norwegian winter

Last year I joined one of the foremost photo clubs in Norway, called "Bekkalokket". Besides learning an awful lot about photography, one gets the chance of taking part in photo excursions. Yesterday we had one of those.

We started early and experienced the rise of both the sun and the morning mist.

A winter sunrise in October can appear very magical.

We stopped for a long time at a waterfall called "Steinsdalsfossen".

It is famous for the the path that goes behind it where visitors can walk dry-shod "into" the rumbling water (Famous is also a fellow blogger who is a member of our club).

As can be seen here.

We also visited "Hardanger farøyvernsenter" where old ships are restored and maintained. This is the old local steamer "Stord 1".

This is the Engine Telegraph from the same ship.

And when I got home, there was the full moon to finish off a perfect day of photography.

Reflective slush

Those of you who read yesterday's post will know that winter came to Bergen exceptionally early this year. However - there are always some reflections to be found.

101010 - the digital day

Even though I really didn't have time, I just had to have a post dated 101010 with a digital photo dated 101010. You might even imagine that the photo contains some zeros.

L is for Lake

The Lake is what in Norwegian is called Store Lungegaardsvann (what charitably might be called Larger Lungegaard's Lake in English). Here is the view towards the south-west one morning last week,

towards the west,

and towards the north-west.

There is a path along the lake where you might find a bench to rest your potentially tired legs and enjoy the view.

If you should wonder how this lake is situated in Bergen, I have included a photo taken previously from the top of Mount Ulriken. You will the see that the lake is not really a lake (although we like to call it that). It is an almost closed bay of what is known as Puddefjorden. If you have sharp eyes you can also see the much smaller Lille Lungegaardsvann (Little Lungegaard's Lake?) slightly above and to the right of its lager sibling.
