W is for Weekend With Wife

"First we took Manhattan, then we took Berlin"

The essence of this slightly changed song title from the famous Canadian poet and singer Leonard Cohen did not escape us, as my wife and I visited Berlin for an extended week-end in connection with a private celebration. Since we have recently visted NYC, one might even say that it was fairly obvious.

We had not the time, nor the inclination, for any extended photo-tour, so you have to settle for the typical tourist photos. The one above is of course Brandenburger Tor at the end of Unter den Linden.

And it couldn't escape even my notice that Serbia had beaten Germany at the World Cup in Football (soccer to the Americans) in South Africa...

Today's post is an entry in the SIXTH round of ABC Wednesday, the meme initiated by Denise Nesbitt. For more, you can log on via the MckLinky enabled site

From NYC to Berlin...what a comparison. I understand that Berlin is a HOT tourist destination these days, rebuilt in an attractive contemporary way.
Seeing Berlin is on my bucket list.

I love Berlin! That's a great city; I used to leave very near the Fernseh Turm when I was there.
And Leonard Cohen..(sigh) was in Nice in concert in 1979!and I was in the public, on first rank..Well, I like this post! Ü

Ahhh, yes, some great trips so close together! And, great shots of sights I'd like to see as I move down my own "bucket-list." I love the "needle" poking up into the sky! Beautiful!

The Brandenburger Tor looks magnificent! My brother used to live only two blocks away from it, directly on Unter den Linden. Wonderful shots of your weekend trip!

I like the juxtaposition of the kirk with the skycraper - the former could hardly be anything but German whilst the latter could easily be New York.

My first husband introduced me to Leonard Cohen and his music way back in 1972. We also saw him live in Ottawa in 1987! And I got my daughter an autographed copy of his latest book a couple of years ago. I love your photos!

"..typical tourist photos..."or not, they are still compelling. BTW, the last time I was in Berlin, I had to go through Checkpoint Charlie. Guess that totally dates me.

I was hoping to see a photo of your beautiful wife, especially when W is for wife.

So many historical places, some thrilling to observe while others are sobering. Love the World Cup celebration with the flag, but I think I could do you one better (not to be published, tho). After Italy won the World Cup in 2006, an Italian friend sent me a photo of a beautiful, bare-breasted young woman atop a car, waving an Italian flag. A photo only a parent could love!!

Å ja, kjente meg igjen med en eneste gang :-) en fantastisk by det der ja!! ble positivt overasket jeg i alle fall, selv om noe var veldig til ettertanke og stillhet.
