A Freezing Pigeon in the Park

Even the pigeons of the city seem to feel the frost. This one sat as quiet as a professional model while I took at least ten photos. I think he spotted me.

Their bodies seem well padded, but what about their wee heads? Brrr.

A frozen thing is easier to picture, because it does not move! Ü
But you knew how to magnify a simple pigeon , with this beautyful blue sky behind..

Brr. I hope its perch was not metal, but probably yes.
Poor pigeon. Did he move at all after your photo shoot?
Such an expressive picture, face, frost.

I really don't know how the birds manage with these temperatures. I know they 'fluff' their feathers etc, but it doesn't seem much against the cold. Sharp shot.

Pie, that would warm you up, anyway.lol.

He seems to have puffed his chest out for you Rune.

It was probably waiting in the hope that you'd feed it.

Dere fann tonen, kan man vel si... Hehe. Flott fotografert!

Liker slike fargeklatter, nemlig. ;)

Good thing he's a fat pigeon in that freezing weather.

Birds have nerves in their feet and I am almost certain their feet get cold but I see them perched on hoar frost or on wire and limbs covered in ice without any apparent discomfort. I suppose they are used to it.

This is a really nice looking bird and you have captured it looking content. The eye is really neat.

What a vain bird! lol Ten photos huh? I think it knew how to post for you!

He's all fluffed out, but giving you the evil eye, I think. He's tolerating you as long as you don't get too close. ;-) Nice close up!

Great colors on the pigeon, and I like the details of the ice on the wire.

think he little pigeon toes were stuck? great capture rune!

I think he was wondering how he could get in your coat.

Barbara Martin said...

He does look a bit cold as his feathers are fluffed up to trap the air.

That is an excellent picture!

I took a picture of a goose that couldn't fly away because he had a piece of wood that froze to him him. He hopped onto a frozen part of a river, the Ice broke and he floated away. I hope he got free.

Birds usually find way to stay warm, as we find a way to stay home during cold winter, lol. Nice pic, Anna :)

Freezing not frozen. As long we live there is hope.
Life is great.

Well well, it doesn´t look so frozen for me, it is a Nordic pidgeon despite it all and may have a Helly Hansen apparel underneath those flurry feathers. But the one who really amaze me are the ravens, flying and croacking that calm as the weather wouldn´t count at all. ;)

We have pigeons here too in the tropics and they are very active and happy (IMO) animals. Gosh, I can't imagine them at -15 degrees - that would be an absolute cruelty! I wonder if there are any biological differences between the Norway pigeons and our pigeons here.

Flott komponert bilde. Helt etter boka :)

Amazing creatures these "simple" pigeons. If you or I sat out there with no shoes or socks imagine the outcome. However, the pigeon's feet have a sort of anti-freeze that protects them from freezing. A tough old bird indeed.

Excellent shot.
