Monochrome sunset

Someone might say that this is the same shot that I posted a couple of days ago: It is not.

The location was the same
The camera was the same (Canon 40D)
The photographer was the same (me)
The shot was NOT the same.
It was a RAW-file treated in Photoshop CS3, as well I could, to show its best in monochrome. The digital darkroom.

This Monochrome concept came from Aileni at The Monochrome Weekly

This makes a great monochrome shot. I love your peaceful boat and water shots. Very calming to me.

Good balance, Rune.

Both pictures are full of the nostalgy of the end of the day.
But when the color picture showed the end of the light, like a candle to follow, this one shows the beginning of the dark, and sounds more pessimistic..

I really like this in b&w. The sun is going down, darkness is creeping in. The empty boat gives an eerie feel - makes you wonder what happened to the occupant(s)...

Always say sunsets and sunrises can equally as dramatic in mono. Very well balanced image that prove this.

I admit I remember a shot that is very similar. ;-) But this IS different. And I like this version and the other too. Good job, Rune. Some day I MUST learn to take and process raw photos.

I agree it is not the same shot. I thought it might be the same boat... But that really doesn't matter: it is an excellent shot, with attractive use of light and shadow and different textures well represented.
I like the feeling of rest-another day done, time to go home for supper, family, and bed.

Quite unique. Only one spot of white. The setting sun.

Delightful! Love how the monochrome highlights the ripple textures in the water!

Rune,
You asked me what I did to my monochrome photo and here's my answer:

I used Photoshop Elements to change the photo from colour to black and white, and I then played with the sliders on the colour curves.

The light was pretty good the day I took the shot so I didn't have to fiddle for long...though I admit to really like playing with my photos sometimes.

I don't shoot raw yet, though it's one of my current goals. I admire your ability.

I have a Canon Rebel similar to yours (I think they're called by a different name in Europe) but I suspect you may have a better telephoto lens than mine.

This is beautiful and I love the name of the picture (well, the name of the post, which I assume is the name of the picture).

So peaceful. The anchored boat really makes me feel as I was sitting there and watching the sunset. Nice!
