C is for Catamaran in ABC Wednesday

Wikipedia defines Catamaran thus:

A catamaran (from Tamil kattumaram[1]) is a type of multihulled boat or ship consisting of two hulls, or vakas, joined by some structure, the most basic being a frame, formed of akas. Catamarans can be sail- or engine-powered.
This one is obviously engine-powered. It has an aluminium hull, is called "Tranen", and belongs to the company "Tide-Sjø". It is in passenger traffic between Bergen and the southern parts of the county of Hordaland.

Today's post is an entry in the FIFTH round of ABC Wednesday, the meme initiated by Denise Nesbitt.

It reminds me of the one that took us from ?? to Catalina Island off California in 1999.

That is a pretty thing and it makes for a smoother ride in rougher water. Or the ones I was on did. I like them but some people don't. I like your photo of it.

I got some bench photos yesterday. It is raining today. Typical thunder storms.

Thanks for helping me to make history.

I like catamarans; we rarely see them around here, and I don't know why. maybe they have no place among our maritime local traditions..
But I traveled on one once. It was sail-powered, and there was only a trickle between the two hulls.. Great sensations!! It seemed to fly over the sea!

Wonderful shot - makes me wonder what your position was. :D

Marvellous, agile boats, aren't they?

That catamaran sure looks fast. It's a very nice picture it's headed right for the camera.

p.s. I called the workman in my post crazy because he didn't seem to have an support equipment. :-)

Very nice picture. When I look at your blog I am amazed at how much it looks like where I live. I will have to visit Norway someday.

Not being a big fan of anything boat like, this has to be one of my least favourites. And the name fits as well: Tranen means Tears in Dutch! And I usually will shed some due to feeling very ill...
Good choice though

Definitely not something I'd find in our harbour. Or that beautiful blue.

Like Hyde DP, going to Catalina Island in California was one of the few times I remember riding in a catamaran.

The only time I've been seasick in my life was on a catamaran in high seas. I will never choose to travel in one again! LOL!

kikamz said...

so, a catamaran is indeed a boat! back in the philippines, the word "c"atamaran with a "K" means laziness. thanks for the info. another word to add to my vocabulary. LOL!

Råstilig bilde du har tatt av Tranen! :) Er noen artige båter det der, og ingen tvil om at man kommer raskt fram når man først er på tur. Stilig å få se skroget rett forfra, me like :)

I've seen small catamarans, but yours is quite huge! Nice photo and great C choice.

Incoming! Everybody duck!

It's not recommended, but I still think it would be cool to be in a rowboat or some such a go between the hulls of the catamaran.

I always love to see catamarans straight on like this!

Somehow I had always pictured a catamaran as a much smaller vessel. Thanks for enlightening me!

I always think of catamarans in the South Seas, but of course, that is only one type.

I am new to this ABC thing, but I must say that I really like your picture. I think I would be afraid to ride on it unless it was going pretty slow, but it might be fun if the seas were calm.

God bless.

Cats can go pretty fast. We have one that goes from LA to Catalina Island. That is a fun ride!

How amazing to be able to see under it like that! I bet it would be hard to draw, with all the different perspective lines etc!!

Your photograph of the Catamaran is outstanding! I love looking through the hulls!
My husband and I (and our car) rode one from PEI to Maine. It was fast! It is named "The Cat". Very nice boat. Wonderful C!

Great photo! I have a friend who owns a big sailing cat. He lives in Florida and takes charters out to Belize and the Caymans. If I hadn't read your text, I would have thought this was a patrol boat.
