Zachariasbryggen (The Warf of Zacharias) is today one of the largest collections of restaurants, cafes, pubs and other entertainment sites in Bergen. It is a rebuilt complex located at Shetlands-Larsens Brygge. This was formerly known as Torgutstikkeren and is at the end of the old harbour in Bergen, Vågen.
In previous times Zachariasbryggen had various functions connected with the harbour and Fish market etc, but it was torn down a number of years ago to make way for a broadening of the street.
The picture above is from around 1900 (Picture courtesy of The University Library at The University of Bergen) and shows what it looked like then. However, it was rebuilt some years ago.
Today it also contains other shops and businesses. Here we see it from the west (Strandkaien)
In Bergen you can of course see it slightly from above.
Or even more from above.
Today's post is an entry in the fourth round of ABC Wednesday, the meme initiated by Denise Nesbitt.

Must be fun to wander around the wharf. Pretty, although the old one had a lot of character too.
But the last photo has way too many buildings for this country-girl. :)
Hmmm makes Whitby seem so very very very tiny! Loved this!
You are fortunate that you can take those photos from different angles --very interesting. I am wondering why all the roofs are red? I would enjoy strolling around there, taking in the view!
You make me want to pack my bags and see your beautiful country. This wharf looks so inviting and interesting. Perfect choice for the last letter of the alphabet.
Rune, those quasi-aerial shots are magnificent.
Interesting to see the wharf long ago as compared to now. Your shots from different altitudes are great!
Everything perfect, very nice landscapes ,best wishes.
It is a beautiful city that you have and beautifully photographed. It seems it is something happen to a lot of cities by the water. The city governments are renovating old warehouse to bring new life to the water front.

The pics seem particularly vivid this week. Guessing no one else picked YOUR Z!
That looks a great place to spend some time... I'm glad the building got rebuilt in a manner that was pleasing... great post and a great 'meme' to boot.

Very interesting to see how the wharf has changed over time. The last photo really gives us a different perspective--great shot!
Your city would be wonderful to explore to see all the different shops and watch the boats in the harbour.
These scenes are amazing. The buildings create a beautiful cityscape.
The scenes from your part of the world never cease to amaze me -such beauty. Just excellent.

Glimrende ambassadør for byen
I'm with Mrs N. You make my look like toytown. Very beautiful overviews.
You photographed your city beautifully!
The red roofs are so attractive. The old photo shows this place was a bustling community a century ago. Nice to see the contrast of today and yesteryear. ;-)
Vad gör ni i Nörge?
wonderful photos: this place looks amazing!
I love the two photos taken from above!
This sort of reminds me of the rebuilt waterfront in Victoria, BC.
Your photos are very nice and show every detail in detail. You did well in this event.
Norway always looks so clean and pretty! Bergen is no exception. A lovely town.
It's a good Z, too!

I like when you compare today with yesterday. And I like your pictures going higher and higher to show us a perfect view of the place.

The more I see of your home country, the more I'd like to visit. This reminds me a bit of a part of my country. Just lovely - I love the water! :D
What a beautiful place! I am absolutely in love with these pictures. Too pretty!
Beautiful images! From your shots and the old photo, it looks like the buildings nearby are still in use. Thanks for your comment on Marianne's bench. Here's a post of Marianne's bench from last year.
Flott Bergensreklame gjennom dine meget flotte bilder.
Stemmer i med Sailor Girl:
I was there too! ;) Hehe.
It looks very attractive. I like it when new places are developed suitably. The views from above are great!
what a pretty skyline!
It's always so wonderful to wander around in Bergen, especially in the surroundings of the harbour. Thanks for these wonderful photos.
A charming area - I'm not a shopper but I think I could spend many hours hanging out right there. Maybe I could tie up a boat and overnight...dreaming, dreaming.
