U is for Ullswater in ABC Wednesday

During the summer of 2006 the Visual Norwegians visited the Lake District in England, a beautiful area of small lakes and larger mountains. Of course we had to stop by the first lake we met, which was this one: Ullswater. According to Wikipedia:

Ullswater is the second largest lake in the English Lake District, being approximately nine miles (14.5 kilometres) long and 0.75 miles (1,200 m) wide with a maximum depth of slightly more than 60 metres (197 ft).
As we can see we met both some local dwellers and a number of other tourists that enjoyed the scenery.

A local sightseeing ship also came by.

There are four of these so-called Ullswater-steamers.

Some of the local inhabitants were very interested in the largest visiting Visual Norwegian, especially in how his toes tasted. For some reason the exact moment of this close encounter was not photographed.

Otherwise, the Lake District is highly recommended.

Today's post is an entry in the fourth round of ABC Wednesday, the meme initiated by Denise Nesbitt.

Ullswater in all its dramatic beauty.
Those crazy birds. Perhaps they had never experienced shoes from Norway!

I'm not sure I've ever actually been to Ullswater although I've been to nearby Windermere.

Wonderful pictures of a great area.

Very beautiful ideed. But I bet the water must be still very cold at least for the human being.

I visited the Lake District twice as a girl and didn't see it! It poured with rain both times and the scenery was obscured! But we saw it again a few years ago in brilliant sunshine. And what a difference it made!

So you had to "go back" to England to find a "U" picture.. Good thing for us, the place looks wonderful. I like the little steamer, it must be nice to have a travel on board. I knew the Loch Ness had a monster, I'm discovering the Ullswater has ..ducks!Ü

Hi Rune! You're lucky! My visit to the Lake district (long time ago) was probably as wet as my visit to Ireland... ;) I can see now how beautiful it is on the sunny side...

Meanwhile Blogtrotter (not me, I’m stuck here ;)) is profiting from the holidays in Lisbon this week and has a tour of Lake Galve, one of the beautiful lakes near Trakai, to show you! Hope you enjoy and have a great week!

All those rocks and twigs probably didn't feel too good on those little duck feet!

Looks like a beautiful spot!

FOR et sted og FOR noen bilder! :)
Utrolig fint.
Som snop for øynene.... ;)

;) Hehe.
Anbefales.
Kameraet tar flotte makrobilder, ja flotte bilder generelt.
Husbonden her kjøpte kameraet hos Japan Photo.

Ønsker deg en fin dag videre i solskinnet. :)

Wonderful photos of your beautiful surroundings. I absolutely love the camouflaged duck on the shore, like amonochrome, tone on tone.

The Lake District is a beautiful place to visit, and your photos give credence to that. I loved the duck photos, and the water and the green hills!

Barry and I went to the Lake District for our honeymoon. We were there again only two years ago. The weather was great (which is unusual for the Lake District) and we also too a trip on that boat you posted. It goes to a place called Buttermere, I think.
Still catching up. I'll be back again.
