J is for the JOYS of Blogging

I started my first blog in 2006 for quite other purposes than the ones it is used for today. This blog was started soon afterwards as a site to place my pictures. I must admit that in the first period I posted mostly for myself, but that didn't matter too much - i did it partly to "learn the system" and partly as a form of self treatment after serious illness.

But then, slowly, I got more contacts and got more responses to my posts. I wrote more comments and got more comments. "You have to write'em to get'em". It is as true in blogging as in everything else. I got involved in several memes, among them ABC Wednesday. So now I have contacts from Seattle to Singapore - from Manchester to Melbourne. The JOYS of Blogging!

And if anyone should wonder why I have decorated this post with a picture of two Norwegian bridges, it is because one of my greatest Joys in blogging is the small meme called "Bridges between" ("Broer som binder" in Norwegian) which I host at Visual Norway the first Monday of each month. In this picture I have managed to fit in the two bridges I see every day, but never at the same time.

Today's post is part of the the third round of ABC Wednesday. The founder, Denise Nesbitt, has changed the rules to make the system more practical. There is now a no-comment blog where you can post a copy or short version of your post with a link-back to your original post for the full version and comments. Scanning through this no-comment blog will give you more Joyous Js! She has also set up a new site where you can log on via Mr. Linky if you want to do that.

I love that you put two bridges that you see daily, but never at the same time, in the same photo.

Very good post.
Blogging is fun and opens up for many additional purposes than the initial one. Most of all I have got a lot of virtual friends in addition to those I know personally.
Remember the first time when I tried to introduce blogging to a professional voluntary organization, They did not understand a clue, and lost a lot of possibilities to communicate with public and members.
To day top politicians have their own blog.
Bad luck

Blogging er Joyful og en får mange nye impulser og ideer.

Well said! As a young child, I had 40 pen pals. Today, blogging is similar in that we keep in touch regularly. I have to admit that I first participated in Photo Hunters to find "safe internet friends" with things that interested me. From some of those blogs, I found other ways to reach out. Bridges Between is my favorite meme --thanks for starting it. I am glad that the meaning for it isn't just physical water crossings.

Yep - that's how it starts!
Glad you stuck with it! Great J!!

Itr was thw same with me: i started blogging on blogspot to safe my posts. I was actually blogging on efx2, which was so unstable that we all had to start four times all over again. Most of those bloggers went to vox, but I prefer blogspot. Indeed I love getting to know so many people from various nationalities. I learnt new traditions and languages. Great post RuneE. You know that I love your photos : they are perfect.

Wonderfully true Runee! Indeed it is a joy! Right now I am sitting here in my nightdress at the kitchen table reading through the ABC's of today, totally enJOYing them all. Wilma however is looking at me, she wants a walk......5 more minutes Wilma! LOL!

How odd. I followed your suggestion and tried again today (Wednesday) and the photo is there. I don't know why but as you suggested maybe it was Blogged out yesterday. LOL

It is a nice photograph and one that I like a lot.

I like your idea of a bridges meme but we don't have any bridges here that are visible. We have the kind level with the roads and you don't even know you are on one.

Isn't it amazing the windows that blogging opens up! I think that "Bridges" really does define it--a reaching out a reaching across barriers. Now, why ever else would I be seeking out bridges from different angles, odd bits of anything for Mondays, scanning the skies for Fridays, digging back in my photo albums for a remembered connection?

Neva said...

I love your bridges and I do have some for you...I will see you on the first Monday of the month!...My BIL is doing quite well after his open heart surgery...now comes the hard part of recuperating and changing his habits(no smoking, exercise and eat some vegetables!)
