It's raining men (and women) in Sky Watch

Voss is a small town about a two-hour drive from where we live. It has been best known for winter sports, but during recent years it has also established itself as a centre for so called extreme sports. At the moment there is a festival called Ekstremsportsveko (The Extreme Sport Week) where anyone with a suicide complex can take part in a number of death-defying activities. A quote from their homepage should give an indication:

Ekstremsportveko is build upon the four elements; water, air, earth and fire. Kayaking, rafting, kiting, big air and freeride represent water. BASE, skydiving, paragliding and hanggliding represent air. Longboarding, climbing, MTB/BMX and multisport are based on the earth element, whereas the festival program is rooted in fire.
Now, I have no wish to leave this life before I have to, but I'll admit to my share of curiosity. Since yesterday promised to be a lovely they for this kind of thing, my youngest daughter and I grabbed a camera and drove off to see what we could find. What we found can be seen above. A number of paragliders were falling out of the sky. Someone said that there were about a hundred, but since many of them flew several times and a lot of others left for places further off, it was impossible to say.

I tried to concentrate on just one of them and follow him down:

Here he is getting a bit closer

And then he meets one of his colleagues - first on one side,

then on the other.

Finally - down on the ground.

Maybe you would also like a peep at the the kind of view they had and a look at Voss at the same time?

BRA!!! Og morsomt!!
Det må være skikkelig gøy på Voss om dagene. Ja, for de som liker det ekstreme da. Men det må jo være et elorado for å gode motiver:)
Flott post, Rune!

What a sense of humor you have, my Norwegian friend!

Color gets my attention...color excites me...color inspires me. Your photos are a great SWF post. Obviously, I love the color of those parachutes and your closeups as well.

Very nicely done Rune.

(BTW, I'm working on a reply to your Email)

I am now taking a diminishing dose of steroids for my Rheumatoid Arthritis pain and it works. I believe the chemotherapy drug is spelled "Methotrexate" that is used to treat a lot of things from cancer to arthritis will be used next. I just relish in being pain free.

So I am not participating in Sky Watch Friday just because I might not be able to make it around to all.

I enjoyed seeing your blog post for Sky Watch Friday and I thought your photography was excellent.

I don't know if you like to read or not but if you do this place is amazing.

I just got my first shipment of used books from Strand's bookstore in New York City, yesterday. They have 18 miles of used books. Think about that. Anyway, they got here and I am totally happy with those I chose to read. I had to start out by just choosing a category, like photography, and go from there. I don't know how in the world they can keep track of so many books.

Look up Strand bookstore or copy and paste the URL here: http://www.strandbooks.com/app/www/p/home/

You're right--watching these activities through the camera is enough excitement for me. Seeing your photos gives the vicarious thrill of falling from the sky.

Nice sky watch Runne. This is something I would really like to try - it looks fun. Having said that I don't like heights, so maybe I won't ever get around to it.

Rune: Very nicely captured, those are some great SWF posts.

You've posted a marvelous series of shots for this Sky Watch. I particularly like how you picked out one potentially "suicidal person" (hahaha) to follow through the sky. I was happy to see he or she made a safe landing. The bird's eye photo of the general area is spectacular! You live in a lovely place.

Hipp hurra for Rune.

Hi Rune! Back to blogosphere after another busy (and annoying) week… ;)
Great pictures! Much better than the ones I took in 1981... ;))
As for the guy on the beach it seems to be the first time he was there after a long year driving trucks with a short sleeve shirt... ;))
Great views from your terrace! I'm jealous... ;))
Meanwhile Blogtrotter is still strolling in the streets of Santiago de Compostela, now racing the famous Paris-Dakar… Enjoy and have a nice weekend!
