A woodpecker at work

We have a couple of birches close to our cottage. A sure sign of spring is when you can hear the rat-tat-tat-tat as they are making new holes for their nests.

Here is one of them in action.

Great photo and cool looking bird! I've heard them in our neighborhood, but not yet been able to site one.

The area around your cottage seems to be very relaxing and full of nature and "natural" life.

That's quite a bird. Love how colorful it is.

Nice sharp capture. I like his coloring and all the textures in the shot.

I haven't ever seen a real woodpecker so have to see them thru YOUR eyes and others. Nice capture! I wish I had a summer cottage -- I would probably live there all year long. I used to dream of a cottage in the woods by a stream and I never had to leave. Food packages would be dropped in and people came to see me, not the other way around. . . dream on!

We have a woodpecker called a Northern Flicker, they are around my place all year but it is hard to get close for a picture.
My bridge pic is up.

He's pretty. Ours are not so green, and not all have the red heads, but most do. The rest of the body is more black and white instead of green.

Ett sikkert vårtegn hos deg. Og et flott bilde.

Your cottage must be in an area similar to where we live. I think you will find Today's photos particularly of interest.
Whilst I have been here on my computer a blue tit has been sitting on the windowsill watching me.

I came to visit you through Mrs. Nesbitt. I am very interested in your wonderful blog and equally wonderful photos. It is our 50th wedding anniversary next year and we are considering a cruise to Norway to celebrate. I'm an old Yorkshire lass, transplanted to San Diego, USA.

silver birch is my FAVOURITE tree! Every time we have moved house and established a new garden I have tried to plant a little grove of them, although they can be hard to find here. The woodpecker is pretty cool too.
