Everyone always imagines beaches with palm trees and lazy life in the south. Not so. Some of the finest beaches can be found in the North - and with sun, waves and girls in bikinis too. I found these at Vikspollen on Vestvågøy.

Most of the pictures shown previously in this blog has been from the Western part of Norway. Lately I have spent some time in Lofoten, in the county of Nordland in the Northern part of Norway; so please bear with me if I am going to show you some pictures from this area in the time to come.
The present picture is from the fishing village of Ballstad on the island of Vestvågøy. It shows one of the quays were the fishing boats moor. The hight of the quay is due to the large difference between the high and low levels of the tide.
I leave it to you to decide where the level is right here.

Small (more or less) pleasure crafts form a large of the life for many Norwegians. It is a hobby, a form for recuperation, holiday or everything in combination. I found this marina with its boats just outside Kristiansand, the "capital" of the most southern part of Norway ("Sørlandet").

If you have planned to cross Norway from west to east (or the other way around) by the E134, you are quite likely to see the sight shown in the picture - a closed road outside the Haukeli-tunnel. But don't be afraid: it opens once an hour in each direction.
Several of the tunnels along this road are closed for maintenance this summer, either totally or for part of the time. There are diversions, though. You can get updated information by phoning 0047175. They have a service in English.
