"Bergenhus" is a medieval fortress in the oldest part of Bergen. Usually you see photographs of the main attractions, "Rosenkrantztårnet" and "Håkonshallen". Here is a picture of the northern part of the fortress, looking towards the fjord and the part of the city called Sandviken.
We can also see some of the old guns, though they are not much used these days. They have been used - in 1665 they helped fight off the English navy which wanted to capture a Dutch merchant fleet which had taken refuge in Bergen.
Today, more peaceful and modern uses of a fortress dominate on sunny days in the spring...
